The performance of the Brazilian delegation in the Rio 2007 Pan American Games was outstanding. The Brazilian athletes exceeded the targets established by the Brazilian Olympic Committee. In 2003, Brazil returned from the Dominican Republic with 123 medals (29 gold, 40 silver and 54 bronze). In Rio in 2007, the country set a record with 161 medals, 54 gold, 40 silver and 67 bronze, coming in third place in the overall medal ranking.

Brazil ended the Parapan American Games in first place in the overall medal ranking. The home team won 228 medals, with 83 gold, 68 silver and 77 bronze medals. Canada came in second place with 112 medals. The United States was in third position, with just one silver medal more than the fourth placed contender Mexico. Both countries got 117 medals.
